About Project GO
From Project GO
In order to achieve success, a program for underprivileged and at-risk youth must teach real life skills that participants can "take home" with them. Each of our programs is available as a one day module, and each is designed to inspire participants to face extraordinary challenges. Each activity presents a high to moderate perception of risk, but with a very high margin of safety. Through games and group activities, our volunteer facilitators help participants process and integrate the value of their experiences. Our programs are designed to encourage the development of self-reliance and personal limits, promote healthy evaluation of personal risk-taking, and build trust, communication and teamwork within groups.
Project Great Outdoors is committed to providing top-quality experiential education opportunities to underprivileged and at-risk youth. Our expert Curriculum Advisory Board, with the input of our volunteers, has crafted active, project-based learning opportunities centered around our outdoor activities. We believe that this multi-disciplinary approach to our cultural and natural history curriculum can inspire greater comprehension and integration than traditional scholastic approaches.
Finally, and perhaps most importantly, at Project Great Outdoors, we believe it is our calling to provide our activities at very low cost to those who need it most. We're soliciting applications from youth programs throughout Northern California and Nevada, to be evaluated on the basis of financial need, and on the compatibility of the applying program's goals with those of Project Great Outdoors. We intend to provide a quality program at the lowest possible price to as many underprivileged youth as we can possibly serve.
